Is God growing weaker day by day?
By Vincent Van Ross

I have always worshipped God. I have always turned to him in times of trouble. I have always prayed to him. I have always thanked him for all his goodness. That is because I have always thought of God as being almighty. That is because I think he is the one who runs the whole universe.

I have always thought of God as being omnipotent. That means God is all powerful.
He is so powerful that he protects us whenever we are in danger…whenever we call upon him. If he is so powerful, can’t he protect himself?

God is also omnipresent. That means he is present everywhere. That means he is all pervading. Such was the image of God in my mind. So, I always considered human beings as being lesser beings although they are made in the likeness of God.

But, over the years, Man has grown powerful…very powerful. Much more powerful than God! So, he has arrogated to himself the job of protecting God.

Many religious organizations are being formed with the singular aim of protecting God. It is as if God is growing weaker. It is as if he is not safe. After all, who needs protection? Only those who feel insecure…isn’t it? Is God feeling insecure? When I see the boundary walls of come temples belonging to different religious denominations rising, I feel scared.

Why does the boundary wall of a house of God need to be so high? Is God not safe in his own home? Or, does he want to keep away his followers and believers? In the olden days, temples used to be on hilltops. They used to be a little inaccessible. But, that inaccessibility was to test the resolve of the devotee. However, they did not have any boundary walls. They were open from all sides.

Why, then, do we have such high boundary walls for temples now? Is there something fishy going on in these religious places in the name of God? Why do we need to hide God from this world? What is there that we want to hide from this world? We need to address these questions. If we do not do address these questions now, we may be compelled to do that later.

Not only that! People are now taking up arms…ostensibly to protect God! I wonder how weak our Almighty God is growing that he needs to be protected by Man.

God created the heavens and the earth. He created the birds and the beasts. So far, so good. But, after that, he committed his greatest blunder—he created Man.

Now Man has taken over all his powers. Man tries to please God the way he tries to please another man. He makes monetary contributions to God. He has almost brought down offerings to the level of bribes. He says: God, if you do this for me, I will contribute so much. Or, he drops a little money into the collections box and requests God to do something in return.

As I said: Man has become all powerful. Man has brought God down to his level.
Now, Man is trying to play God. Has Man turned God into a weakling?!

By God, Vincent, you have again raised a very pertinent question. I am just beginning to wonder: Are we really making God weaker by the day? Nice story line.

interesting observations!

Man committed the ORIGINAL SIN!

Man was excomunicated from heaven!

Away from God!

Man became fallible!

Man can at the most protect his own belief.

The protection of God is a responsibility beyond the shouldering prowess of the meagre human!

All man can do is pray, pray for the divine respite for his follies- pray for a life worth living within and beyond existence!

No God can not be weaker Vincent ross, it’s our faith in him that is getting weaker and weaker day by day. Why do we doubt him? Rather, I feel God is getting stronger day by day, because otherwise how could he manage this ever incresing troublesome world? God must have developed his management skills to deal with the contemporary situations. Don’t you feel the same?

I am here to state here that we should always be respectful to HIM. Such articles can not lead us to anywhere.

The reason why I wrote this article is because I was concerned by the fact that the boundary walls are rising far too high. For me, it is a cause for conern.

Dr. Saini, I don’t think there is anything in my article to suggest that I am disrespectful to God. On the contrary, I have clearly stated that I love and respect God to the fullest.

Hey Vincent, this is indeed thought provoking. You have made me remember this verse from Quran ”Allah is Self-Sufficient: it is you who are the needy. If you turn away, Allah will replace you by another people, and they will not be like you.”

We are God’s representatives on earth, if we do not carry out His work, we will be replaced by another people because Allah has to bring His work to perfection.

Its everyone’s responsibility to play his part and folow His commandments; this is our chance to do so otherwise if we miss it, He will create some one else to do His job. We need to be watchful as to wat we are doing... everyone on indivdiual level.

You are right man is playing God that has been the problem ever since. In the times of Moses, the pharoh claimed divinity, nowadays since we have becoem modern, we dont explivcitly say we are God but when we reject or dont follow Him, it means that we are our own God! Everyone has made their own definition of right and wrong...

Another thing is that God is Most Patient and most Kind, He says that if i were to punish people for their deeds instantly, not a single person would remian on earth... but He has a certain plan, a certain limit till which He has set people free.

Fariha,
Thank you very much for your wonderful comments. I have said this before and I am saying this again. There is great depth in your knowledge of spirituality. That is why you are able to see these things in my writing.

After creating human beings, God’s creativity was complete. He left everything to Men or women, to do whatever they wished to do, the way they wished to do and shape their destiny as well. He kept only six subjects with Himself; they are - Life and death, Loss and profit, Victory and defeat. Rest all, He does not interfere generally.

You may worship Him anywhere - temple, Church, Masjid, Gurudwara or even in a burning ghat. He does not need our protection; his temples or churches or other places of worship need our protection from ourselves.

I do agree with Mr. Ramesh when he says ” his temples or churches or other places of worship need our protection from ourselves” . God is not becoming weak. It is we who are becoming weak with our intolerance for other religions. The physical boundary walls are a representation of the boundary walls that we have imprisoned uor conscience in.
Nice thought provoking article Vincent.
