When the Chairman and Commissioner of Indian Premier League Lalit Modi made the announcement regarding the change of venue from India to South Africa for IPL-2 Twenty20 matches from India to South Africa, one of the promises he made was that he would ensure wholesome entertainment in addition to riveting cricket.
But, nobody—not even Modi—had any clue of what happened at the opening match between the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on April 18. The game came to a halt all of a sudden. It was an unscheduled break. There was commotion in the field.
As everyone watched, a black dog scampered into the field providing some light moments to the spectators. The dog put the capturing skills of the field and security staff to their ultimate test. Some of them chased him around and one of them even dived headlong to grab him before they managed to catch him and remove him from the field.
The game resumed after a few minutes. But, for the spectators, it was an additional bonus. They came to watch the Twenty20 match. They had the cheerleaders bolstering the teams, for entertainment. They had top cricketers to entertain them and if that was not enough the had representatives of franchisees on the stands which included business tycoons and favourite Bollywood cine stars.
The dog show was certainly a pleasant surprise. It was unscheduled. And, it came like a bolt from the blue!
But, talking of IPL security, did the dog have a ticket to walk in or did it give the security personnel a slip. Was it a security lapse by any chance?
