The decision to lay off the employees was taken after the board meeting attended by Naresh Goyal. When the sacked employees protested, Goyal alongwith Vijay Mallya was informed wherein both aviation barons justified their decision under the full glare of media at Hyderabad. Obviously they had the backing of Prafull Patel, the Aviation minister and Shiv Sena backed Kamgar Sena.

The sane voice of Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, the calling of report from the Labour Commissioner by Minister of Labour Oscar Fernandes plus the threat of Raj Thackeray and his MNS Goons that no Jet Airways aeroplane shall be allowed to take off from Mumbai if the sacked employees are not taken back, had the desired effect on Naresh Goyal.

Jet airways has always one of the high end Indian flights and needs to remodel itself to reach to common Indians like the Indigo and Air Deccan. However, the story yesterday of 1,900 employees being sacked was shocking and that nearing Diwali one of the most celebrated Indian festival! The sudden decision to sack such a large number of employees shows major flaws in the Management of Jet Airways, as such sensitive and far reaching decisions should have been taken only after much deliberation and also gradually and with prior information to the employees months ahead to help them be prepared!!!
